For our new trope collection releases, we thought we’d do a little something different with our author Q&A section and give you a glimpse into the writers personal trope faves! (And occasionally a peek at their writing spaces and pets!). We hope you enjoy!

Carrie Ann Ryan (CAPTURED IN INK)

What is your favorite thing about (the trope you’ve been included in)

I love writing the world around me and the characters that fit my friend groups so well! Love is love is love is love.

What trope have you not written yet but want to?

I’ve always wanted to write a sports romance or even mafia/dark. In fact….hmm….*takes down notes*

Christopher Rice (THE FLAME)

What is your favorite thing about (the trope you’ve been included in)

“Pride and Passion” is maybe the best description I can think of for every romance story I’ve tried to write, THE FLAME included. This novella feels nostalgic for me now. When we first published it, queer romance was new and emerging, and a menage story in which the MMs did a lot of mmmmming along with the F seemed like a big risk for all of us. I was so honored and moved that 1,001 Dark Nights gave the story so much support when it did. I love any romance in which the heroes and heroines come to accept and love a part of themselves around which they’ve always felt shame. THE FLAME is very much that — and with magic candles to boot!

What trope have you not written yet but want to?

Interesting question. As C. Travis Rice, the four (soon to be six) stories in my Sapphire Cove series really run the trope gamut. And some tropes I stay away from because they’re not my jam. (Amensia? No thanks. I’m sure it can be done well, but the whole topic gives me complete anxiety.) Is holiday romance a trope? If it is, that’s near the top of the list. But in terms of more traditional trope lists, I’d say arranged marriage is one I’d love to tackle.  It gathers up a bunch of potential tropes in one. Enemies to lovers, opposites attract, forced proximity, the works.

Lorelei James (STRUNG UP)

What is your favorite thing about (the trope you’ve been included in)?

I was honored to be the first author to write a LBTQ+ story for 1001 Dark Nights 🙂 I loved taking an alpha-hole jerk character and showing he too had the ability to change and get his own happily ever after.

What trope have you not written yet but want to?

I’ve been daydreaming of writing a taboo-ish trope of “falling for dad’s best friend” but all the pieces aren’t there yet, so once they’re aligned, I plan to work on it!
